Impromptu Science Lesson

Tonight we had a coworker of Danny's over for dinner. The boys love it whenever anyone comes over, and that person it basically their best friend for the night.

Well tonight was a bit extra funny because right before our visitor came the boys were watching science YouTube videos with Danny. These just happened to be made by a man in Russia. Well, Danny's coworker just happens to be in town from the Ukraine. The boys were excited when he arrived, then super excited when they heard his accent (they thought he was the guy from the science videos), and went over the top when he handed then a big target bag of chocolate (a Ukrainian custom).

They were a bit too excited to eat dinner and were bouncing off the walls a bit. I didn't put all the pieces together until Will started saying he wanted to do an experiment. My first thought was uh, no why would we do an experiment now? I soon realize he was directing it at our guest, he was expecting to make a pop bottle rocket like the video. After sort of explaining in broken English why my four year old insisted on doing a science experiment, I did the only thing I could think of on the spot, cornstarch and water. If you've never done this you should google it, but it's pretty awesome. We created a big mess but it bought us enough time to finish dinner.

This poor guy is single and doesn't have kids, but our kids were treating him like a favorite uncle climbing in his lap ect. He was being a great sport about it, but I figured it was appropriate to break our no movies on Sunday rule and allow the boys to watch frozen upstairs and give the poor guy a break.

I have no idea what he will take home as normal life in the U.S., but he did comment that Ukrainian kids are shyer. Lol, nope sometimes I just live in a zoo! :)
