Ugly Shoes!
A few weeks ago Danny and I bought the ugliest shoes I've ever seen, well maybe not the ugliest but close. (for the record Danny does not think they are ugly) Anyways, on top of that they are also the most expensive shoes I've ever bought. So that said, why did we buy them?
It's a new trend in running shoes, minimalistic shoes or barefoot running. The idea is that you run very differently without shoes than with them. When you run without shoes you hit the ground with your mid-foot instead of your heel. When you strike with your mid-foot you are able to take advantage of the body's natural shock absorbers your forefoot and calf instead of just your knees and ankles. Running without shoes also strengthens all the tendons and muscles in your foot. The problem though is that when you run barefoot you're likely to step on things aka glass, sharp rocks, ect. These shoes are supposed to enable you to run as if you were barefoot but while still protecting your feet.
There's a steep adjustment but we'll let ya know how we like them.

Yard Work Part 1: Fence Posts
This Saturday we started our spring overhaul of our yard. First project is to build a gate wide enough for the boat to fit through so that we can store it on the side of the house... instead of the driveway.
It was a pain and required a LOT of phone calls but we finally managed to get everyone out to mark out lines (well except water). It turned out to be a really good thing because for some reason our gas line runs right under the corner of our fence to our neighbors. We had to shift our posts a little bit because we were only a foot away from this line. As much fun as it would have been to see what happens when you hit a gas line with a post hole digger we thought we'd pass.
Next weekend: actually building the gate & weed round-up 1

Welcome to Earth Caleb Joseph Haynie!
This morning my sister sent me a text asking how big Will was. I was trying to figure out if she meant now or when he has born, but since she's pregnant I assumed she meant then. So I responded and she replied that Caleb was bigger. I thought she had gone to the doctor or had an ultrasound and was thinking "mmm those can be wrong we're not going to give up our record yet" so I replied I think you have to wait till he's born for that. Well then she said his is didn't you get my message? WHAT!?!! Apparently, he was born 6:59am weighing 9lbs 7oz and 21inches long. I was like the last to find out because we had to block our picture messages due to Danny's pocket dialing habit. Anyways, apparently little Caleb knew this because if you look at his left hand in the picture his trying to tell his Mom and Dad to call his Aunt Jenni. Basically, because she is amazing and he wanted her to know he was here. :) So this is for you baby Caleb (well and for Tiff so that she doesn't have to look it up in case she wanted it in your baby book)

Presents from Grandma & Grandpa
This week Will's "lost" package from across the pond finally made it to us. It's a dinner set with trucks, lorries, & diggers on it. I am always tempted to keep the packaging when we get a package from London because the stamps are so fun. This present was extra cool because the wrapping paper matched the cups & plates exactly!
Well, while I was wondering what lorries were Will got to work. Did I mention he is a professional eater? He had no trouble figuring out what all this stuff was for. Thanks Grandma & Grandpa Rich!

Date Night: Homemade Pasta
Okay so I know I said I would be posting our date nights so that you all could get ideas... ya well sorry haven't been very good at that. So here's my reconciliation a perfect date night that didn't cost me a thing.
Okay so I found this recipe here for homemade pasta. I had all the ingredients, but chances are you might need to buy semolina flour (yes I just had that on hand, remember the bread faze? It continues) or you could just use all-purpose.
We stuffed them with a chicken, parmesan, cream cheese type filling okay but I like them cheesier.
Her's look taster so if your up for buying ingredients I would recommended this plus the tutorial for how to stuff them is there too.
So in order to speed things up and get us eating faster I set up mise en place, or everything in it's place, before he got home. Notice the recipe cards on the cabinets? I also split all the dough ingredients in half so that we could both mix and kneed and roll together. It's called bonding :) In the end it had a sort of culinary school meets Italian villa getaway feel to it.
Here's our finished product! mmm!
This was a super fun, super easy date night. I highly reccomend it.

Staying up late with Dad
Danny has a meeting every Thursday night so he gets home right about at the time Will goes to bed. I normally have Will in his P.J.'s ready to put him to bed once Danny says goodnight. One some nights however Will convinces Dad to let him stay up and play for just a little bit longer. Here they are taking Will's new firetruck "off-roading"
Chicken Bones
Okay so I am a chicken snob. I don't really like to eat it off a bone. I hate any part that is rubbery, or not white. So today when I went to the store to buy chicken and saw that these, split breasts, we on a crazy special I had a problem. I could ignore them and go about my happy way with my chicken breasts, or I could get twice as much for the same price and have bones for stock. I stood there for like 20 min.
If I bought them I would have to touch them, and cut them, and see them...
I would have to peel off the skin...
They just look gross...
But the frugal side got the better of me and I ended up with 10 lbs of yucky chicken in my cart.
I got home put Will to sleep, tied up my hair, and got ready to do the yucky work. Why? Because I'm a mom and if I don't do the yucky work then who will?
I must say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I ended up with enough chicken for 5 meals, and stock for another 3. I patted myself on the back for a job well done... and let Danny eat my chicken at dinner because I just didn't have the appetite for it. :)

The Shopping Trip
This is a reenactment of what Will did in the grocery store today. In probably the busiest aisle in the store, the dairy aisle. While I turned my back for a second to grab a gallon of milk Will managed to grab my coupon folder, pull out all the coupons, and dump them all over the aisle. When I turned around and saw it I looked around to see who would get to watch me crawl all over the floor and pick them up. The lady next to me just look and shrugged her shoulders! Then said oh look there he's doing it again as Will reached in for more goods to throw. I don't think that lady had kids, but really? no help? or sympathy?
Oh well I can't stay mad at this face.

One Year Pictures
This is the end of Will's baby book pictures, now he just gets to be apart of our family posts/ books. So I cleaned his birthday shirt, dressed him back up and we headed outside.
I thought about photoshoping out the gash on his forehead, but ya know what? He's all boy and proud of it so why not let him show it?
Such a handsome boy who's going up so fast!
and ALWAYS on the move....
especially when dirt is the incentive
Do you understand the dirt cake now?
The clean shirt didn't last long, but it's okay he's still a cutie in my book.

Consequences to Freedom
Shortly, after I took the pictures yesterday this happened. Will's first goose egg. He was standing on the door and slipped. He only fell into the door, maybe a 2 in fall total, but right into the edge. He cried for a minute and then was fine, but he definitely did not appreciate my attempts at an ice pack.

Freedom
Will has figured out how to open the screen door. (it's not very hard the wind can do it) He feels very accomplished when he opens the door and crawls out all on his own. The first time Sadie went crazy. She came barking at me to let me know the baby was escaping :) When I'm in the kitchen I let him hang out there because he never goes far and I can see him the whole time. He thinks he has total freedom and absolutely loves it.

Ruffle Onesie
Some of our good friends are expecting a little girl this summer. They moved away from Austin but they were in town for a day so I decided to take advantage of it. Can I just say how nice of a break making girl stuff for a change was? Will is just not ok with ruffles. Anyways, I was pretty happy with how they turned out. I found the tutorial here. I used the bottom idea.

Happy Birthday Will!
I love this face! My little guy is the big 1 now and I cannot even describe how much I love this little guy. Bobbi Lee probably doesn't remember this but one of the first times I met her we were talking about kids and she mentioned that if you don't love them at first that's okay. It kinda stuck with me. I never cried when I heard his heartbeat or saw the sonogram, or felt the first kick. Those moments were cool they just felt anticlimactic. When he was born I was fried, physically, mentally, and most of all emotionally. The first few weeks I was just tired, and in autopilot. But now holy cow I love this little cutie. His little smile brings sunshine to my day!
We tried a new doctors office this time. It's a little more convenient. I loved his old doctor's office but, the last few visits have taken like 2 hrs plus the 30 min drive. That's just stressful for both of us. Last time Will fell asleep waiting and they had to wake him up for his shots :(

Happy Birthday Will! Part 1
Will loves to eat dirt so instead of a cake I make him a dirt cup. The truck is his to smash and eat while the little ones were for us.
It really did look like dirt!
Before the sweets we ate a meal of Will's favorite things: bread, noodles, broccoli, chicken, and sauce.

Neighboring Pecans
Our neighbor has a big pecan tree in his front yard that hangs over into ours. We reap the rewards by collecting the pecans that drop in our yard. We decided to be neighborly and make a pecan pie to take over to our neighbor. On Sunday we cracked the pecans and baked the pie, but our neighbor hasn't been home! I think the snow storm killed his power so he's been staying somewhere else until they fix it. Bummer! I think we'll have to eat all the pie!

Fishin' for Frisbees?
Our plan on Saturday was to go play disk golf, but Will decided to take a nap right when we wanted to go! So we only had time for a hole or two before we had to get ready for Stake Conference. This is where Danny's disk landed on the second hole. Might I add that this is really a creek and this is by far the widest, deepest part. It was our best disk so Danny found a stick and went fishing. He even, almost, stayed clean :)

Excuse me weather I think you forgot we live in Texas!
Friday morning I was cleaning up the breakfast dishes as Danny was about to head to work when I glanced out the door and saw this!
Danny hopped in the car to get to work, but found out they were opening late and came back home. It was super icy out. Most people in Austin are not accustomed to driving in snow so he took a 1/2 day vacation and waited for it to melt.
We had a video of Will in the snow but I can't find it right now so I'll have to add it later.
